Camping in Drôme in September: enjoy an Indian summer at Bois du Châtelas
September in the Drôme Provençale is one of the region’s best-kept secrets. At camping les Bois du Châtelaswe invite you to discover this golden season, when the light changes, the heat softens and the hills take on warm hues of lavender and holm oak. There is still availability on our estate: here’s everything you need to know to book your week before the season closes.
Our accommodation available in September
We offer several types ofcamping accommodation in the Drôme to suit different tastes in comfort and nature. Check availability directly on our website for the last open slots before the season closes on September 6.
Cottages and mobile homes: the comfort of a vacation home
Our cottages and mobile homes are available in several ranges, from 2 to 4 Fleurs, as well as in Premium versions. The Premium cottages with private spa remain our most popular offer at the end of the season: imagine ending a day’s hiking in the Baronnies Provençales by enjoying your own whirlpool bath on the terrace, facing the hills. For larger families, our Premium 5 and 8-person cottages in double modules offer generous space, with two accommodations grouped around a shared terrace.
The 4 Fleurs packages include bed and bathroom linen, baby kit and dishwasher. The Premium range adds end-of-stay cleaning and access to the pedestrian zone, for extra peace and quiet at the end of the season.
Mobile homes (or cottages) offer a balance between comfort and immersion, while other types of rental offer a different kind of vacation, closer to nature.
Lodges and tipis: sleeping under the stars
For those looking for a closer-to-nature experience, our air-conditioned lodge tents and tipis offer authentic immersion in the Drôme environment. The 3 Fleurs lodge tent with sanitary facilities is particularly popular in September, when the nights start to cool off. You’ll find all the comforts you need, without giving up the pleasure of waking up to the sound of cicadas.
Bare pitches: find the essentials of camping
Our pitches are available in 3 and 4 Fleurs, with electricity, water and, for the largest, individual drainage. Campers wishing to bring their own equipment will find hilly terrain and panoramic views over the valley that few campsites in the Drôme can offer. Please note: the site is very hilly, which may require special attention for people with reduced mobility or senior citizens.
September in Drôme Provençale: a season in its own right
Imagine cool mornings under the pine trees, afternoons still bathed in sunshine, and fragrant evenings when the Drôme reveals its most authentic flavors. September is often the favorite month for those who return to Bois du Châtelas every year. Fewer people, more serenity, and a territory that offers itself fully to those who take the time to explore it.
Situated at the top of the village of Bourdeaux, between Crest and Dieulefit, our campsite enjoys unobstructed views over the valley and surrounding hills. At this time of year, the landscape takes on a new depth. It’s the natural setting we’ve chosen for our estate, and it’s the one you’ll find when you arrive in September.
What awaits you on the estate in September
In September, the water park – more than 1,000 m² – remains open, and its indoor and outdoor pools are heated all season long. Children will love the slides andaqua-ludic area with water cannons, while adults will enjoy the solarium terrace, which is much more pleasantly crowded than in high summer.
Our wellness area – with sauna, hammam, whirlpool bath and zero-gravity massage chair – is available on reservation, with paid, private access. It’s the perfect opportunity to pamper yourself between two excursions in the Diois or Baronnies regions.
In terms of activities, the beach volleyball, city stadium, pétanque, table tennis, laser shooting and weight room will remain open until closing time.
Our campsite restaurant offers a menu combining classic snacks and dishes based on fresh local produce, with a covered terrace. Thegrocery store, adjacent to reception, lets you do your emergency shopping and discover some regional products.
Around the campsite: exploring the Drôme in the off-season
September is the ideal time to explore the region. The Diois, Baronnies Provençales and Vercors foothills are just a few kilometers away. Hiking becomes gentler, the trails less crowded, and the villages – including Bourdeaux, just a few minutes away on foot – regain their natural rhythm. The local market, bakery, pork butcher and village grocery store round out your day-to-day activities.
Outdoor activities – canoeing, kayaking, canyoning, paragliding, via ferrata, fishing, golf – are still available in the valley in September. It’s also the time of year when the views from our estate perched high above Bourdeaux reveal their full depth, with the hills tinted gold and ochre all the way to the horizon.
To reach the campsite, take the A7 freeway from Lyon or the south. The nearest train station is Montélimar.
